After Differentiating into an O, Pampered by an A - Chapter 28
Ye Xing covered her mouth awkwardly, wanting to explain, but a sharp pain shot through her abdomen. She prepared to head home, only to find she lacked even the strength to lift the cat carrier.
Shen Yushu sensed something was wrong. She turned to pour her a glass of hot water, but heard Ye Xing’s voice say weakly, “I’m not feeling well. Could I trouble you to look after Little Grape for one more night?”
Ye Xing felt that in her current state, she wouldn’t be able to care for the kitten even if she took her back.
Shen Yushu didn’t refuse. As she walked over, memories of the hazy, passionate night they shared flashed through her mind, and a strange emotion flickered in her eyes. Thinking the discomfort might be caused by the marking, she asked in a low, soft voice, “Where does it hurt?”
Ye Xing didn’t want to elaborate, but seeing the unreadable yet intense gaze Shen Yushu fixed on her, she felt an overwhelming sense of pressure.
“My stomach just feels terrible, and I’m nauseous. It’s probably…”
Before she could finish, Shen Yushu walked straight into the inner room. Ye Xing was left bewildered. “Are you going to help me watch Grape or not?”
There was no answer from inside. What is Shen Yushu up to?
A few minutes later, Shen Yushu emerged having changed her clothes. She walked up to Ye Xing, and a single word slipped from her red lips: “Go.”
In that short span of time, fine sweat had broken out on Ye Xing’s forehead, and her breathing was no longer steady. She held her lower abdomen with one hand, gritting her teeth and waiting for an answer.
Hearing “go,” she looked confused. “Where?”
Seeing Ye Xing’s increasingly pale complexion, Shen Yushu’s brow furrowed deeper. She set the cat carrier aside.
“Stomach pain, nausea, dizziness, and weakness—these are all symptoms of acute gastroenteritis. You need to go to the hospital right now.”
Ye Xing realized she checked every single box Shen Yushu mentioned. She looked up in surprise. “How did you…”
Shen Yushu didn’t explain. She stepped forward to support Ye Xing, her arm wrapping around the girl’s slender, supple waist. Her voice was as soft as a breeze: “Salted Fish Queen, you ate so much dried fish; are you actually a cat?”
Ye Xing: “…”
Oh, so it wasn’t the iced lemonade.
As they spoke, waves of cramping churned in her stomach. Ye Xing bit her lip, and realizing she couldn’t hold out much longer, decided to head to the hospital.
In the elevator, Shen Yushu supported Ye Xing. In the enclosed space, their bodies were pressed together. It was the first time Ye Xing felt the warmth of Shen Yushu’s body while fully conscious.
She looked up at Shen Yushu’s glamorous profile. Her fingers, gripping the fabric of the other woman’s clothes, curled slowly; she felt her fingertips burning.
The embrace-like posture made Ye Xing feel uneasy, but strangely, she didn’t resist it. In fact, there was a sense of familiarity. It felt as though, in a dream, she had been entangled in this embrace countless times.
Ye Xing was startled by her own sudden thought. Crap, am I actually fantasizing about Shen Yushu’s beauty?
While she was spacing out, Shen Yushu’s cool voice drifted over: “How much longer are you going to stare?”
Ye Xing snapped back to reality, realizing the elevator doors had already opened and her “covert” observation had turned into a blatant stare.
She quickly lowered her lashes and explained, “Ah, I was just thinking the elevator is moving too slowly.” She bit her lip, feeling a bit guilty.
Shen Yushu looked at her panicked eyes, and a beautiful arc curled onto her lips. “Mm.”
In the passenger seat, Ye Xing leaned back with her eyes closed and didn’t say a word. Her beautiful brows didn’t unknit for a second. Shen Yushu pressed down on the accelerator, and the red sports car cut a sharp line through the night.
At the hospital.
Shen Yushu made a call and took Ye Xing directly upstairs via the VIP elevator.
After a thorough examination, the doctor concluded that Ye Xing’s gastrointestinal distress was caused by consuming too much salty food at once, which had damaged her gastric mucosa. He recommended an IV drip.
Hearing this, Ye Xing ignored the pain and stood up immediately. “I’m not doing an IV. I’ll take medicine—I’ll take as much as you want—just no needles.”
The duty doctor was older; he pushed up the thick glasses on his nose and frowned. “That’s fine, but medicine works slower. You might still feel unwell for a few days.”
“No prob—”
“Doctor, please write the prescription. We’ll do the IV.”
Before Ye Xing could finish her sentence, Shen Yushu, standing beside her, made the decision decisively.
Slightly speechless, Ye Xing turned to look at Shen Yushu. Just as she was about to speak, the woman looked at her righteously and said, “Grape is too noisy. Get well soon so you can take her back and care for her yourself.”
Noisy?
The doctor’s gaze swept over the two of them with an ambiguous look as he tapped on his keyboard. Just as he was about to hit the enter key to finalize the prescription, Ye Xing took a deep breath and whispered with downcast eyes, “Doctor, I have a needle phobia. I’m afraid of the pain.”
The doctor’s fingers paused. “…”
The air in the office froze for a moment. A wry smile played on Ye Xing’s lips. It was true; she was terrified of pain, including needles.
Suddenly, the doctor let out a soft laugh and agreed. He modified the order and prescribed some medicine for Ye Xing instead. Ye Xing, anxious to get the medicine, grabbed the slip and walked out of the office.
Shen Yushu stayed behind, nodding politely to the doctor. “Dr. Liu, thank you for the trouble. Are there any other issues with Ye Xing’s health?”
Dr. Liu smiled at her. “Miss Shen, you’re too kind. Aside from her current discomfort, Miss Ye is very healthy.”
Hearing this, Shen Yushu nodded and turned to find Ye Xing. Watching the figure ahead, Shen Yushu’s gaze became deep and clear.
“Afraid of pain?” she whispered to herself.
Thinking back to that night, Ye Xing indeed said that word more than once. But back then, having lost control, she seemed to have…
Ye Xing clutched her stomach and pressed the elevator button. Suddenly, the prescription in her hand was snatched away by an approaching hand, and she was gently pushed onto a nearby bench. “Sit here. I’ll go get it.”
She watched Shen Yushu turn and enter the elevator. Looking at the descending numbers, Ye Xing’s mind went blank. This high-cold neighbor isn’t as cold as I thought!
It was nearly 9:00 PM by the time they left the hospital. Little did they know that near the hospital entrance, a woman in a white coat stood with her arms crossed, watching them get into the car.
Shen Yuzhi’s red lips curled into an intrigued smile. “Hmph, Shen Yushu, so you really do have a lover!”
“Dean, you’re still not off work?” A staff member passing by greeted her.
Shen Yuzhi had just come out of the lab. She nodded in response, thinking that today’s overtime was worth it—she’d actually caught Shen Yushu “red-handed.” She hadn’t seen the woman’s face clearly, but judging by her figure… Mm, a beauty.
Back at Jiangting.
After taking her medicine, Ye Xing’s symptoms eased significantly. At the door, Shen Yushu placed her fair fingertip on her lock, turned to the Ye Xing behind her, and asked with a frown, “What? Do you need me to look after you tonight too?”
Ye Xing was choked by the remark. “Not… not quite. I’m much better. I was just waiting for you to open the door so I could take Little Grape back. Without me there, she might be a bit noisy.”
Ye Xing felt genuinely embarrassed; both she and the cat had been a burden.
Shen Yushu turned her gaze back to Ye Xing and said softly, “Maybe. But another night of noise won’t make a difference. Go back and rest well; come get her tomorrow.”
Ye Xing’s red lips parted. She wanted to argue, but thinking of her physical state, only two words came out: “Thank you.”
Shen Yushu’s expression remained neutral as she gave a faint “Mm.” Once Ye Xing entered her own door, Shen Yushu stood still for a long time before finally entering her home.
Perhaps due to being an Alpha, Ye Xing was back to full strength the next morning. After getting ready, she immediately rang Shen Yushu’s bell.
But no one answered.
It was 8:00 AM on a Monday—she had already left? Dammit, she agreed I could take Little Grape back today.
Ye Xing pressed herself against Shen Yushu’s door, her ear flat against the surface like an octopus. “Little Grape, are you in there?” After calling out a few times, a faint, tiny meow actually drifted from inside.
Ye Xing was fuming. Is Shen Yushu doing this on purpose—?!
She returned home. Ning Youyou called to say she’d pick her up at 10:00. Her delicate skin, exposed to the UV rays on Zhou Island, needed immediate maintenance before she went to the company for the selected media interviews in the afternoon.
From today’s tasks all the way through to three days from now, the schedule was packed. Ye Xing felt dizzy just listening, but her heart was full of joy. The Salted Fish Queen was officially setting sail!
Afternoon.
In the media interview room at Chuan’ai Entertainment, Ye Xing was in top form, answering reporters’ questions with composure. Toward the end, one reporter suddenly raised their voice, as if they had been plotting this all along.
“Miss Ye, I heard you and Miss Lan Xinqiao have a history. Is the fact that you both appeared on Our Countryside is So Beautiful a true coincidence, or…?”
“Ah, sorry to interrupt. This interview does not involve the artist’s private life. Please do not ask irrelevant questions.” Ding Ling, standing nearby, knew the tricks of these cunning reporters all too well. As long as Ye Xing uttered a single syllable, it could be misinterpreted; silence was the best defense.
Ye Xing understood Ding Ling’s signal, gave a charming smile, and set down her microphone.
After the interview, Ye Xing rested in the lounge. “Sister Ling, I feel like next time a reporter asks, I should just say Lan Xinqiao and I have zero connection. Acting like this makes people think I’m hiding something out of guilt,” Ye Xing said lazily, holding the small fan Ning Youyou handed her.
Ding Ling looked at her as if she were crazy. She was curious how Ye Xing could say they had no connection with such confidence every time. Back then, “someone” had spent a lot of effort to make Lan Xinqiao happy. Maybe this is what happens when you stop loving someone; they become like air.
Ding Ling pushed the thought aside. Remembering a call she received before the interview, she said to Ye Xing, “By the way, do you know President Shang Qing of the Shang Group?”
At the name “Shang Qing,” Ye Xing raised her lashes. She searched her memory for a moment and asked with a frown, “What about Shang Qing?”
Judging by her reaction, they were acquainted. Ding Ling continued, “Did you know? It turns out the person who bought out your stock in the livestream was Shang Qing. She contacted the company saying she wants to invite you to dinner tonight.”
A flash of surprise crossed Ye Xing’s face, but it vanished instantly. So it was her—
Ye Xing put down her fan and said coldly, “I’m not going. She’s not a good person.”
Ding Ling: “…”
Night.
Ye Xing stood reluctantly outside the private dining room, looking at Ding Ling resentfully.
Ding Ling coaxed her, “My little ancestor, Shang Qing bought out your entire stock. She paved this road to see you with cold, hard cash. If we didn’t know, it would be one thing, but now that we do…”
“Fine. Let’s just eat quickly and get off work. I’m tired.” Ye Xing didn’t want to make things hard for Ding Ling; she knew her manager worked hard for her sake.
She pushed open the door and walked in.
Behind her, Sun Xi stood next to Shen Yushu. Following her boss’s gaze to that elegant figure, she whispered, “President Shen, that looks like Ye Xing.”
Shen Yushu stood there, her expression unreadable, but Sun Xi felt the temperature around them drop several degrees.
Suddenly, a cold voice spoke: “Assistant Sun, go find out who is in that private room.”
Without another word, Shen Yushu headed toward the second floor.
