When Yun Qi woke up, she was already in the hospital.

Her throat was parched. Faint, rustling voices drifted into her ears, but her thoughts were too blurred to distinguish the content.

Yun Qi struggled to open her eyes. A familiar silhouette was watching her; seeing her wake up, the figure brought over a glass of warm water.

The warm water moistened her dry throat and warmed her entire body. Memories of the moments before she fainted flooded back into her mind, and she became fully awake.

This was a private hospital room. The person watching over her by the bedside was Lin Chen. The Omega had faint dark circles under her eyes, likely because she hadn’t slept well since the incident; her expression was haggard. Nearby, Bai Mingshu and Yun Ye were talking, but they stopped as soon as they saw Yun Qi wake up and hurried to the bedside to ask how she was feeling.

“I’m fine.” Yun Qi moved her body slightly and didn’t feel any major issues. “Can I see a mirror?”

Yun Qi didn’t feel any pain, but there was a slight sense of strangeness—as if something had changed.

At her request, the expressions of Lin Chen and Yun Ye didn’t change much, though they stiffened for a fraction of a second. The joy on Bai Mingshu’s face vanished, replaced by a look that suggested she was about to burst into tears.

She embraced Yun Qi on the bed.

“Your uncle will avenge you.” Her voice carried a slight sob and heartache, leaving Yun Qi even more bewildered.

She repeated her request, and Lin Chen brought her a mirror.

The person in the mirror was both familiar and strange. Yun Qi could recognize the face as her own, but it was softer than before. There didn’t seem to be any massive changes, though.

Judging by Bai Mingshu’s reaction, she had half-expected to be disfigured.

Seeing Yun Qi’s confused gaze, Yun Ye knew she hadn’t realized exactly what had happened to her.

“Do you remember what happened before you fainted?”

Yun Qi nodded. She remembered pulling the syringe out the instant it was stuck in. Then came the wave of dizziness, and she blacked out.

Thinking of that strength which shouldn’t belong to an Omega and the syringe that appeared out of nowhere, she looked at Yun Ye, wanting to ask for information on Yi Fei. However, she wasn’t sure if Lin Chen knew the cause of her fainting, so she didn’t mention the name.

“The drug in that Omega’s syringe was handed over to the lab by Father for analysis. The preliminary judgment is that it affects pheromones and differentiation. However, since you pulled it out so quickly, Cousin, not much of the agent entered your body,” Yun Ye explained the general situation first.

“The researchers have never seen this agent before, so it might take some time to find a specific solution,” Bai Mingshu added from the side.

“Solution?” Until now, they still hadn’t told her what had changed about her.

“Your appearance has likely been converted to that of an Omega because of those drugs, but your pheromones are still an Alpha’s—though they might smell like an Omega’s to others,” Lin Chen explained from the side.

She didn’t think the Alpha would be crushed by this; the current Yun Qi overlapped more and more with that tiny figure in her memory. When the Alpha was little, her mother and aunt had dressed her up as an Omega together, taking childhood photos of her in a pink dress in the garden.

She had a set of those photos in her bedroom, left by her mother.

“Then when will I recover?” the Alpha interrupted her aunt. She couldn’t accept her appearance becoming an Omega’s, even if her internal nature remained the same.

Despite her anger, she deliberately softened her tone when facing Bai Mingshu—the aunt who had cared for her since she woke up at age seven.

“The doctor said it depends on the situation; you might recover in a few days.” Bai Mingshu didn’t mention the doctor’s other remark. Because they were unfamiliar with the drug, the doctor also said she might have to live in this form for the rest of her life.

She was afraid the latter part would crush Yun Qi and make her give up on herself.

The ambiguous answer didn’t satisfy the “Duke” on the sickbed. She pursed her lips and looked at her cousin.

“Everyone else, please step out for a moment,” Yun Ye said, reading Yun Qi’s gaze.

Only Yun Qi and Yun Ye remained in the room.

“Is there something you want to ask me?”

“Yi Fei—that Omega. Her strength was strange.” Even an Alpha shouldn’t have been able to break those restraints. “And the syringe… did those idiots not even search her after the arrest?” Thinking of that group who were constantly at odds with her, it was hard for the Duke not to suspect they had done it on purpose.

An Omega who had been in an interrogation room for days still had the strength to break her shackles and even had a mysterious syringe hidden on her. She didn’t recall interrogation rooms allowing people to bring items inside.

“Father is currently negotiating with them. They claim everything followed normal procedure when that Omega entered,” Yun Ye said, troubled by those oddities as well.

Yun Lan had thought Yun Qi was just making a quick trip; he hadn’t expected it to turn out like this. He felt deeply sorry that such a thing had happened to his brother’s only daughter.

He was the one who called Yun Qi over, so he bore a share of the responsibility.

“And Yi Fei?”

“…Gone.”

“Gone?” The person on the bed doubted her hearing. After she fainted, the culprit—who was inside military headquarters—vanished?

She couldn’t help but laugh. Did those idiots think their suspicion wasn’t big enough already?

“They sent you to the hospital after you fainted and sent the remaining drug from the floor to the lab for testing. They had guards watching the Omega, but when they returned from the lab, the guards had been knocked unconscious and she was gone.”

“Nothing was caught on surveillance, and no one else in the military noticed anyone entering or leaving.” Seeing that Yun Qi seemed to want to ask more, Yun Ye told her everything he knew.

“But don’t worry, Father will demand an explanation from them.”

Yun Qi rubbed her temples, a headache forming, and stopped talking.

“Is there anything else you want to know?”

Seeing Yun Qi shake her head, Yun Ye bid her goodbye. He knew his cousin didn’t need comfort from others right now; letting her be alone was likely the best choice.

After Yun Ye left, Yun Qi got out of bed and walked around.

In the main storyline Yun Qi had seen, she had two cousins. One was Yun Ye; in the plot, he only had one child—Nuannuan didn’t exist in her memories—and he was divorced from his partner.

The other cousin was not described, other than that he lost his life in the final war.

Her cousin Yun Xiaoyue eventually fell for Mu Yu and betrayed her family for her. In the end, she attacked Lin Chen out of jealousy and was killed by Lin Chen’s friend.

When she saw Yun Xiaoyue a few days ago, she had tentatively asked if she liked any Alphas. The other girl shyly admitted she had some feelings for Xu Jilin? Well, liking Jilin is better than liking the Protagonist—at least she won’t lose her life in the end.

She hoped that after she returned to her own world, Xu Jilin and Yun Xiaoyue could live a stable life. They should adapt well to the world Mu Yu and Lin Chen create.
