After Differentiating into an O, Pampered by an A - Chapter 21
Ye Xing knew that Shen Yushu would likely refuse, but she had no choice. She didn’t want to send Little Grape to a boarding center, yet bringing the kitten along would interfere with her work.
She quickly added, “Um, if it’s really too much trouble, you could ask Assistant Sun to help you out. I’ll be back in about two or three days.”
Ye Xing’s mention of Sun Xi reminded Shen Yushu that Sun Xi did indeed keep cats at home.
Looking into those peach-blossom eyes filled with pleading, Shen Yushu bit back the refusal that was on the tip of her tongue. She pondered for a moment and took a deep breath.
“Leave it at the door. I’ll contact Sun Xi to come over later.”
Ye Xing felt uneasy seeing Shen Yushu’s cold attitude toward Little Grape, but Ning Youyou—who had finished loading the luggage downstairs—called.
Ye Xing checked the time on her phone; she was running late. She had no choice but to say a reluctant goodbye to Little Grape.
As Ye Xing’s figure disappeared down the hallway, Shen Yushu leaned against the doorframe with her arms crossed. One person and one cat stared at each other.
“Meow~”
“Tch, what a pain!”
Half an hour later, Sun Xi stood before the cat carrier in casual clothes, looking completely bewildered.
“President Shen, you’re actually keeping a cat?”
In all the years she had followed Shen Yushu, she had never known her boss to like small animals; in fact, Shen Yushu was a bit of a germaphobe and usually found them bothersome.
Shen Yushu sat on the sofa in her water-blue silk pajamas, watching lazily as Sun Xi lifted Little Grape out of the carrier.
She said tonelessly, “The cat isn’t mine, it belongs to…”
The words caught in her throat. She felt there was no need to tell Sun Xi; if she did, who knew what kind of misunderstandings that gossipy mind would cook up. After all, besides Kong Zhen, Sun Xi had the most fiery “gossip soul” around her.
“It belongs to a friend. They asked me to watch it for a few days,” Shen Yushu added nonchalantly.
Sun Xi ruffled Little Grape’s fur and gave a casual “Mm.” Clearly, she didn’t believe it.
Shen Yushu’s friends were all the elite of Jiangcheng; who would leave a cat for her to look after? That was just asking for the cat to be neglected.
Sun Xi placed Little Grape on the soft, snowy-white carpet and began organizing the supplies. When she saw the luxurious, expensive pet products, her movements froze.
She looked up at Shen Yushu. “President Shen, are you sure you want me to take Little Grape back to my place?”
Bringing the kitten to her home felt like a “Grape Princess” becoming a “Grape Commoner.”
But Shen Yushu looked down at her tablet in silence, which served as a tacit confirmation. Sun Xi thought of something else and hesitated. “By the way, my cat at home is a small Bengal. Little Grape is so tiny, I don’t know if…”
Thud—
Shen Yushu closed her tablet on the sofa. Her fair fingertips tapped the surface twice as she raised her lashes. “Forget it. Keep the cat here. You come by every morning and evening to look after it!” She stood up and headed toward the study. “Contact a pet hospital and find someone to come over and give it a good bath. It’s filthy.”
Sun Xi: “???”
Little Grape smells wonderful; where exactly is she ‘filthy’?!
Wait, that wasn’t the point. The point was: was she now taking one salary to look after two bosses?
The variety show Ye Xing was attending was called Our Countryside is So Beautiful. Hearing the name, it was no wonder Ye Xing had initially refused.
It was so tacky—
But after hearing Ding Ling out, she realized that besides the name, everything else was fine.
In this program, the fixed cast goes to a different location each episode. Besides visiting tourist spots, they play interactive games with local residents and introduce local products.
The segment that made the show famous was the finale of each episode: the fixed members and guests participate in a livestream to sell local specialties. The guest with the highest sales is awarded the title of “Village Ambassador,” which is practically useless.
However, the person with the worst sales has a miserable time. Before the show starts, everyone writes down a “small punishment” and reveals it to the audience. The person in last place has to fulfill the wish/punishment of the person in first place. The punishments were usually a highlight of the show, so the audience always looked forward to them. Of course, all livestream proceeds are donated to charity.
Sitting in the car, Ye Xing flipped through the detailed rules Ning Youyou had given her. She felt a bit of pressure; she couldn’t just treat this as a vacation.
Life isn’t easy; artists have to sell their crafts and promote goods!
Ning Youyou was focused on driving but caught Ye Xing’s small sigh. She glanced in the rearview mirror and smiled. “Aiya, Sister Xing-xing, don’t worry. You’ll definitely be fine this episode. The moment your peak beauty appears in the livestream room, everyone’s hearts will flutter, and you’ll take first place.”
Ye Xing was speechless: Hey, wake up! This isn’t a beauty pageant!
She pouted and put down the rules. There was still a distance to the airport. Ye Xing planned to take a nap to recharge, but she wasn’t sleepy at all. No, she missed Little Grape. She wondered if Shen Yushu would mistreat her baby.
Arghhh—
Ye Xing opened WeChat, intending to message Shen Yushu to check in, but it hadn’t even been an hour since she left. What if Shen Yushu found her annoying and took it out on Little Grape? She restrained herself and didn’t send the message.
Just as she was about to close her eyes again, her phone rang. “Hello, Sister Ling!”
On the other end, after a few brief pleasantries, Ding Ling’s voice became solemn. “Ye Xing, do you know who the other guest for this episode is?”
Ding Ling was hoping Ye Xing could win back some “visual fans” this time, so she had been digging to find out who the other guest was, fearing the person might outshine Ye Xing. As it turned out, the person wasn’t exactly “high-profile,” but her relationship with Ye Xing was… “bright green.”
“Who?” Ye Xing was too lazy to guess.
Ding Ling took a deep breath. Through the receiver, Ye Xing could almost feel her chilling mood. “Lan! Xin! Qiao!”
“Oh. Don’t know her—”
Hearing Ye Xing’s indifferent answer, Ding Ling’s brow furrowed. “Hm? My little ancestor, why do you sound like you haven’t forgotten that little Omega yet? I’m begging you, record the show properly. Do NOT let the media catch any news of the two of you hyping a scandal again.”
Hearing this, Ye Xing understood: apparently, she and this Lan Xinqiao had a history?
Ye Xing couldn’t remember, but she couldn’t ask Ding Ling directly, so she could only agree listlessly. After hanging up, she quickly searched for “Lan Xinqiao” and her own name. Perhaps the PR had been handled well, because she couldn’t find much info online.
While she was looking confused, the car stopped at a red light. Ning Youyou had overheard the call. She bit her lip and stole a glance at Ye Xing. After a long moment of hesitation, she spoke:
“Sister Xing-xing, is it confirmed that Lan Xinqiao is the guest?”
Ye Xing nodded, waiting for her to continue. Ning Youyou sighed, looking at Ye Xing with pity. “Sister Xing-xing, it’s okay. To get through life, everyone’s head needs a bit of ‘green’ (cheating). Not many people in the industry know that Lan Xinqiao cheated on you (gave you a green hat). Just do your best; we’re just there for work.”
Ye Xing: “Huh? A green hat?”
