After Differentiating into an O, Pampered by an A - Chapter 20
Shen Yushu shot her a cold glare, and Ye Xing promptly pursed her red lips.
Hmph, it was just a joke!
She strode ahead, distancing herself from the low-pressure zone surrounding the other woman. Behind her, Shen Yushu’s gaze lingered on Ye Xing’s silhouette, her eyes gradually becoming as deep as the sea.
Suppressing the strange, inexplicable emotion from a moment ago, she followed closely behind. “The driver from the Shen residence will be here soon.”
Hearing Shen Yushu’s cool tone, Ye Xing sat down lazily on a nearby bench and gave a faint “Mm” in response. She looked up, her eyes meeting Shen Yushu’s clear, water-like gaze, and was just about to say something when a rustling sound suddenly came from behind them.
Startled, Ye Xing’s reflexes kicked in, and she practically leaped into the air.
Shen Yushu didn’t notice the noise at first and was about to sit down, but Ye Xing suddenly let out a cry of “Ah!” and grabbed Shen Yushu’s arm, instinctively burying her head and hiding in the other woman’s embrace.
Her mask hid her expression, but Shen Yushu caught the sheer terror in those bright, dark eyes.
“What’s there? Is it a rat or a snake? I’m scared.”
Ye Xing tried to maintain her composure, but her voice carried an almost imperceptible tremble, and she didn’t dare look back. Her slender, fair fingers gripped Shen Yushu’s arm so tightly that her fingertips turned pale. Through the thin fabric, Shen Yushu could feel the temperature of Ye Xing’s touch; on this breezy night, it felt exceptionally scorching.
Considering Jiangting’s six-figure property prices, everyone living here was either rich or influential, and the environment rivaled a park. How could there be creatures like rats or snakes?
Shen Yushu turned her head toward the sound and discovered a small cardboard box behind the bench, making a scratching noise. Once she saw what was inside, Shen Yushu lowered her lashes and realized that Ye Xing didn’t seem to have any intention of letting go.
Her gaze fell on those pale fingers; her brow rose slightly, and a faint, amused smile curled onto her lips.
This is all the courage she has?
She truly couldn’t connect this woman with the one in the video from that afternoon, the one who smashed a director’s door with a stool.
“How long do you plan on holding me like this? Is a kitten really that terrifying?” Her cool voice drifted into Ye Xing’s ear.
Huh? A kitten?
Ye Xing snapped back to her senses and turned to look.
“Meow~”
The white cardboard box shook slightly, and a fluffy pink paw reached out, clawing at the edge as it tried to break free from its confinement.
It really was a kitten.
Ye Xing immediately let go of Shen Yushu’s clothes. Seeing the several wrinkles she had pinched into the expensive fabric, she fluttered her long lashes and gave an embarrassed smile. She apologized while lightly smoothing out Shen Yushu’s sleeve. “Sorry, I thought it was a rat or a snake.”
Watching Ye Xing’s movements, Shen Yushu’s beautiful brow furrowed. “Are you using me as a cat to groom?”
With that, she pulled out her phone, intending to contact the building manager to have the misplaced “item” removed. Ye Xing didn’t know Shen Yushu’s plan; she had already run over and crouched behind the bench, staring at the cute creature in the box. Even through the mask, her eyes were full of warm smiles.
Soon, a manager in a professional suit arrived. After checking around, they found that the kitten didn’t seem to have an owner and prepared to take it away. Seeing this, Ye Xing immediately interrupted.
“Wait, this cat has an owner now.” With that, Ye Xing took the cardboard box from the manager’s hands. “I’m adopting this little cutie.”
The manager naturally agreed. After apologizing again for the fright caused to the two women, they left. Seeing that Ye Xing truly couldn’t bear to put the kitten down, Shen Yushu frowned and asked, “Are you sure you want to raise that little thing?”
Ye Xing nodded repeatedly.
Meanwhile, Shen Yushu received a message saying the driver had picked up Shen Xiaoqian. The two began walking back. Shen Yushu had no interest in cats and only gave it a passing glance. In the box, the little thing had grey-and-white fur and looked soft and squishy; its sparkling eyes were like two black grapes, looking quite endearing.
Along the way, Ye Xing’s gaze never left the little creature. Once they reached their doors, she didn’t even have time to say goodbye to Shen Yushu before shutting her door with a “Bang!”
Shen Yushu stood before her own door, not opening the lock for a long time, her emotions unreadable.
The show Let’s Fall in Love! was temporarily suspended due to Li Guan’s scandal. Clearly, the production team didn’t want the project to die, so they posted a message on Weibo saying they were rebooting and would see everyone again later.
Li Guan, currently under investigation, had fallen from her pedestal. Overnight, she went from a director everyone flattered to a “poison” everyone avoided for fear of getting tainted. The reality of the entertainment industry was on full display.
Early in the morning, Ye Xing was lying on her sofa holding the “little cutie” she’d brought home last night. She scrolled through the news, clicking her tongue and hoping that scumbag Li Guan would get the “good” ending she deserved.
[Pretty Alpha doesn’t work tomorrow, feeling great, so comfortable! Pretty Alpha doesn’t work tomorrow, I’ll be as lazy as I want…]
The phone on the side table rang. Ye Xing set down the furball and answered. “Hello, Sister Ling!”
On the other end, Ding Ling’s voice was full of excitement. She got straight to the point: “Ye Xing, after contacting some friends yesterday, I’ve finally found a variety show that fits you!”
Hearing that there was work, Ye Xing sat up instantly, her laziness vanishing. “What kind of show?”
After hearing Ding Ling’s brief introduction, Ye Xing was completely bewildered, her head spinning. “Sister Ling, are you serious? Going to the countryside to farm? Why didn’t you just book me a show about ‘Getting Rich by Raising Pigs’?”
Ding Ling knew Ye Xing would refuse at first and explained slowly through the phone, “Ye Xing, listen to me. This show isn’t simple. It’s a prime-time show on a major satellite TV station. Artists shed their idol baggage and return to a peaceful, rustic pastoral life, promoting local culture. It has much more depth than a dating show.”
After the analysis, Ye Xing finally nodded and accepted the job. She figured if she stayed picky, her “flower vase” self was going to be stored away until she became an antique.
On the day of departure for the recording.
Ye Xing looked at the little thing jumping around her house and felt conflicted. She was going out to work—who would take care of her little cutie? She glanced back at Ning Youyou, who was packing her luggage in the walk-in closet, and shook her head. Ding Ling certainly didn’t have the time either.
As she thought it over, her eyes darted around, and a suitable candidate suddenly came to mind.
Without a word, she carried the exquisite, luxury cat carrier and rang the doorbell next door.
With a click, the door opened. Ye Xing was a bit surprised to see Shen Yushu was actually at home, but then she remembered it was the weekend. Shen Yushu looked at Ye Xing’s bright face, which was clearly filled with hesitation.
She asked directly, “What is it?” Her voice was as cold as ever.
Ye Xing pursed her lips and gave a sweet smile, then held up the cat carrier.
“Sister, I have to go out to record a show for a few days. Could I leave ‘Little Grape’ here with you for a bit? You just need to give the kid a bit of food and water. Don’t worry, she’s very well-behaved.”
Little Grape—
Shen Yushu looked down at Ye Xing’s hand. The kitten in the carrier was lively and active, reaching out a cute little paw, playfully trying to hook onto the hem of her skirt.
The next second, her elegant brows furrowed.
“I don’t like cats!”
