After The Cannon Fodder Died, She Became The Female Lead’s White Moonlight (GL) - Chapter 36.1
“Teacher Shen, this is a flower cake my mom made. Have some.”
After a day of classes, Shen Sijin was tidying up her things in the office, preparing to head home, when a girl rushed over and handed her something.
“For me?” Shen Sijin smiled slightly. “Why?”
The girl smiled sweetly. “Thank you, Teacher, for taking me to the hospital last time. My mom specifically asked me to bring this to you!”
Shen Sijin accepted the flower cake. “Then please thank your mom for me.”
The girl put her hands behind her back and winked playfully. ” Teacher Shen, if you like them, I’ll ask my mom to make more next time. But could you please stop choosing me for experiments?”
“No can do,” Shen Sijin shook her head with a smile. “Your foundation is too weak. You need a few more experiments to reinforce it.”
The girl sighed deeply. “Fine.”
“Then I’m going home now. Goodbye, Teacher Shen.” The girl waved at her.
Shen Sijin watched the girl’s receding figure, picked up her bag, and walked out of the office.
It was dismissal time. Some students were still playing in the school, laughing and chatting in the corridors. A few students saw Shen Sijin and gave her bright smiles.
“Teacher Shen, goodbye.”
“Mhm,” Shen Sijin curved her lips, smiling softly. “Go home early.”
“Yes, Teacher.”
Shen Sijin took the subway home, just as she usually did.
She walked into the bathroom, washed her face, and then looked at the person in the mirror.
The person in the mirror had straight black hair, dark, almond-shaped eyes, a mole under her eye, and a pale face.
This was her real face.
A few years ago, after she jumped from the building, she thought it was the absolute end, but unexpectedly, she was given life again.
She transmigrated into another person’s body, but unlike before, this body was her own—the scar on her leg, the mild visual impairment in her left eye—it was all her original body.
At the time, she was devastated, not understanding why she was still alive. She had already decided to die, yet she was given a chance to live again.
She had considered trying to die again.
But when she walked to the seaside, for some inexplicable reason, she couldn’t go through with it. She suddenly felt so, so tired. What if she died this time, only to be reborn again?
At this point, Shen Sijin was truly exhausted. Living was meaningless, and while she wanted to die, she was afraid of an incomplete death.
She started to cling to life once more.
Fortunately, the occupation of this body was a middle school chemistry teacher. Shen Sijin had always wanted a job that wasn’t solitary.
This profession kept her from feeling completely alone for the moment. At least she had many students around her.
She inherited the memories and knowledge of this body.
This body grew up in an orphanage and had no family.
In the first month after transmigrating, Shen Sijin lived a lethargic life, spending every day curled up at home, listlessly surviving.
Then, school started, and she tried going to teach.
Now, she had been a teacher for over four years and was slowly getting used to this life.
She felt this life was quite good. She had many young students around her. Many students genuinely liked her. After she became a homeroom teacher, her life got busier. She liked this busy routine, as it left her no time to dwell on anything else.
Although she was still alone in her private life, she still liked her current existence.
After all, no one here knew about her terrible past, or that she had been admitted to a psychiatric hospital.
Che Gulai wasn’t here either.
She was a brand-new person.
Even if the hallucinations and auditory phenomena occasionally followed her, Shen Sijin had grown used to them. She was no longer tormented by them.
She decided that since she had been given a new life, she would live it out.
Even if living still held little meaning for her, there was no longer a compelling reason to die.
She would forget the people and memories of the past two worlds.
That was Shen Sijin’s intention, and she had lived peacefully for five years.
The days were unexciting, but calm.
Until a few days ago, when she ran into Che Gulai.
Shen Sijin’s heart became uneasy. She truly didn’t want to see Che Gulai again.
She didn’t want any contact with Che Gulai for the rest of this life.
Shen Sijin’s eyes were dark, and her thin face looked peaceful yet dull.
Che Gulai.
She mentally chewed on the three syllables.
I must never run into her again.
Shen Sijin said in her heart.
I will never walk toward you again.
Since running into the person who looked exactly like Shen Sijin that night, Che Gulai went back home and immediately spiked a high fever, followed by a torrent of nightmares.
In the dream, she saw Shen Sijin. She tried to chase her, but Shen Sijin jumped from a tall building right in front of her.
She was devastated, running forward frantically, trying to catch her, but Shen Sijin was too far away. Che Gulai couldn’t reach her no matter what.
She could only repeatedly break down in the dream.
She burned with fever for three whole days before it broke.
As soon as she woke up, she immediately assigned a specialized team to stake out that area. She asked Xiao Xu to join them, with instructions to inform her immediately if anyone resembling Shen Sijin appeared.
Che Gulai didn’t know if that night was an illusion. She needed to confirm if that person was Shen Sijin.
Although it sounded absurd, even more absurd things had happened. If Shen Sijin could transmigrate into another person’s body once, why couldn’t she do it again after death?
Che Gulai was almost driven to madness. She was truly desperate.
For the past five years, she had lived daily with profound guilt and longing. These emotions clung to her like bloodsucking leeches, slowly draining her life, leaving her existence desolate, numb, and empty.
She didn’t even know if there were any people or things left in this world that could bring her joy.
Bai Yu had resigned. He probably felt caught between her and his sister and, in frustration, simply gave her his shares and moved abroad.
She was truly alone now.
Che Gulai knew she had only herself to blame.
After waiting for nearly a month, the team informed her that they had seen a person who looked remarkably like Shen Sijin.
A student in Shen Sijin’s class had skipped school again. This student often played truant. She usually had to go to his house and drag him back to school.
Last time, she went to his house that night and talked to him a lot. The student was from a single-parent home, solitary and aloof. He would behave himself for a few days after Shen Sijin disciplined him.
That was the night she ran into Che Gulai.
This time, the student skipped school again and wasn’t answering her calls. Shen Sijin had no choice but to go back to that area.
She just hoped she wouldn’t run into Che Gulai.
Xiao Xu had been staking out a certain coffee shop for a long time. She was becoming increasingly bewildered by her boss.
Not only had the CEO become less humanistic over the years, but now she was asked to stake out a spot and follow anyone who looked like Shen Sijin.
Xiao Xu thought Ms. Che had gone mad.
Shen Sijin had been dead for so long. Her body was just bones. How could she possibly reappear in the world?
Unless she had a twin?
Xiao Xu was seriously thinking about resigning.
Xiao Xu slumped over the table, glancing listlessly at the street. Then her eyes went wide. After a few seconds of utter shock, she frantically patted the person next to her. “Quick, quick, call the CEO!”
After speaking to the student, Shen Sijin went home. All the way, she felt like someone was following her, but maybe it was just her imagination.
Shen Sijin hadn’t run into Che Gulai since that night. She was sure that night was just an accident. Shen Sijin only wished she would never see her again in this life.
It was the weekend. Shen Sijin went to the supermarket to buy some things. The weather was nice today. Lan City was generally cool, but it had started snowing in October, which was unusual. The sun had finally come out these past few days.
Shen Sijin walked along the street. Sunlight filtered through the leaves. The wall next to her was lined with bougainvillea. A gust of wind blew a few petals onto Shen Sijin’s shoulder.
