The Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Alpha Decides to Go On Strike (GL) - Chapter 11
The old butler served tea to the two of them and then said: “The master went fishing and hasn’t returned yet.”
He looked at Su Li apologetically: “I’m sorry to trouble the two young ladies to wait.”
Su Li waved her hand and said “It’s okay,” then turned to see Shen Mo slightly frowning. She asked the butler: “I scheduled a time with him in advance, why did he go out?”
The butler realized he couldn’t deceive her, so he bent down and explained: “The weather was nice early this morning. The master said it would be a shame to miss the morning fishing, so he took his gear and left.”
“What about you?” Shen Mo pushed her teacup away. “Why didn’t you stop him?”
The old butler’s expression changed rapidly. At one point, he secretly looked up at Su Li, as if re-examining her.
He meekly replied: “I, I was not thoughtful enough.”
Shen Mo slightly lifted her chin, and the butler finally turned and left, as if a great weight had been lifted.
The living room was very quiet. The pure white statue of the Virgin Mary behind the classical sofa looked down upon everyone with an expression of neither sorrow nor joy.
Su Li licked her lips, breaking the silence: “Are you close with your father?”
Shen Mo shook her head.
She told Su Li about her life: “My parents divorced shortly after I was born. My mother, seeking freedom, moved overseas and left me with my busy father. I was raised by the family nannies and servants since I was a child.”
Su Li nodded: “Then that woman earlier…”
“Zhou Muxin. She is the wife my father married later,” Shen Mo said plainly.
Su Li wrinkled her nose and complained: “She’s raised that child to be completely spoiled and lawless. It’s truly outrageous.”
She looked at Shen Mo with distress: “Do they always bully you like this?”
“They seem fierce, but actually…” Halfway through her sentence, Shen Mo seemed to remember something and turned to look at her.
Su Li blinked: “Hmm? Actually what?”
“Yes,” Shen Mo lowered her head, raising a hand to cover her face and hide her expression. “They have always been very… fierce.”
The two sentences didn’t quite flow together, but Su Li’s attention was completely drawn to Shen Mo’s gesture.
She moved closer to the other woman in distress. After hesitating for a moment, she cautiously put her arm around her, making a guarantee: “Don’t be sad. With me here, I promise I won’t let them walk all over you again!”
Shen Mo looked up at her.
There was clearly a hint of amusement hidden in those eyes, bright as stars, but the next moment, she wrapped her arms around Su Li’s neck and buried her face in her shoulder.
“I’m scared.”
Before Su Li could discern if she had misread the expression, the embrace of soft warmth and sweet fragrance made her lose all reason.
She grinned foolishly, gently patting Shen Mo’s back with both hands: “Don’t be afraid. I’ll be your rock from now on.”
Shen Mo didn’t speak. Her warm breath fanned against Su Li’s neck. Su Li’s ears turned red from the sensitivity. She tilted her head, trying to create some distance.
“Can I lean on you for a while?” Shen Mo spoke, stopping her movement. “I feel a bit dizzy.”
“Of course you can,” Su Li agreed, while asking worriedly, “Dizzy? Is it serious?
“Do you want to see a doctor?”
Shen Mo shook her head languidly.
Her right hand traced a path from the buttons on Su Li’s chest up to a faint, crescent-shaped scar on her collarbone, then idly traced a circle on it: “How did you get this?”
Su Li felt her mind wandering.
On one hand, she felt Shen Mo’s actions were too ambiguous, as if every move was a provocation. On the other hand, she thought the cool-tempered Shen Mo was not that kind of person.
The two lines of thought fiercely conflicted, eventually concluding that she was simply overthinking things.
“My mother gave it to me when I was little.”
Shen Mo looked up: “Is your relationship with your family bad too?”
“No,” Su Li realized she hadn’t been clear.
She smiled: “I was very mischievous as a child. Once, I almost knocked over a kettle of hot water on the table. When my mother saw it, her eyebrows were half-done. She forgot everything else and turned around to hug me.
“After she sighed in relief, she realized that the eyebrow razor in her hand had made a small cut on me.”
She looked down at the scar: “It’s faded so much it’s barely visible. I didn’t expect you to notice it.”
“Can’t see it?”
Shen Mo gently stroked the scar with her fingertip: “On you, it’s very clear.”
Perhaps because Shen Mo was pressing her whole body against her, Su Li felt her cheeks burning and she had difficulty breathing.
“My mother is a very kind person. She loves making dim sum. Her baozi (steamed buns) are delicious,” she stroked a lock of Shen Mo’s dark hair. “If, if we get the chance, I’ll take you to my house. She’d love to meet you too.”
Shen Mo smiled sweetly: “Okay.”
When she smiled, her eyes were so clear, like an innocent child, making it impossible to feel any suspicion towards her.
Su Li’s hand moved to her face, her thumb resting right beside her lips.
Their eyes met. Shen Mo made no move.
“Phew—” In the final moment, Su Li impatiently stood up.
She didn’t know where to put her hands. She had to take a deep breath before she had the strength to say: “T-That, I need to go to the bathroom.”
Shen Mo: “…”
Without Su Li to lean on, she softly collapsed onto the sofa.
“It’s over there,” she pointed out the way after standing up. “Can you go by yourself? I need to go talk to the butler about something.”
“Okay,” Su Li nodded.
She followed the direction to the equally classical and magnificent bathroom. Since she had full makeup on, she couldn’t splash water on her face. She could only turn on the faucet and wash her hands with cold water to cool down her body.
About five minutes later, she was completely calm. When she opened the door to leave, she noticed the corridor was quiet.
Faint human voices came from the stairs not far away. Su Li heard the name “Shen Mo” and subconsciously crept closer.
Around the corner, Zhou Muxin was talking to her son, Shen Mingzhu.
Shen Mingzhu was complaining: “…Can’t we drive that woman away? She’ll help Shen Mo hit me.”
“Silly child,” Zhou Muxin rubbed his chubby face. “That’s Shen Mo’s fiancée. She brought her specifically to meet your dad.”
Shen Mingzhu tilted his head: “Is she really getting married?”
Zhou Muxin scoffed: “Your dad looks down on her for being an Omega and doesn’t want to give her a share of the family assets. Wouldn’t she have to find a way to grab more of our family’s money?
“If she gets married and gives your dad an Alpha grandchild, you and I will be kicked out to starve!”
Shen Mingzhu: “No! The family assets are mine! I won’t let that bad woman steal them!”
“She’s already brought the person back. Your mother is out of options this time,” Zhou Muxin sighed. “I really didn’t expect that bitch Shen Mo would actually say she’d marry just for the family assets.
“Could that woman be someone she hired to put on a show for your dad?”
“It must be an act!” Shen Mingzhu tugged at her. “Mom, let’s go expose her!”
“Don’t worry, baby,” Zhou Muxin comforted him. “If that’s the case, your mother has ways to make them reveal their true colors.
“Just keep quiet and wait for the show.”
After they left, Su Li turned and went back to the living room.
The originally quiet living room was now crowded with several people. Besides the busy butler and two servants, Shen Mo and a middle-aged man were sitting on the sofa.
The two were seated at opposite ends, appearing as if they were not very familiar with each other.
Seeing her approach, Shen Mo stood up and introduced her: “This is my father.”
Su Li was startled and quickly nodded, greeting him proactively: “Hello, Uncle Shen.”
She gave a polite smile: “I’m Su Li. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Shen Zhong glanced at her, responded with a faint “Mhm,” then lowered his head and continued to concentrate on tidying his fishing line.
Su Li felt a bit awkward. She looked back at Shen Mo, who casually gestured for her to sit beside her.
Before Su Li could react, Zhou Muxin and Shen Mingzhu also entered the living room.
Seeing them, Shen Zhong’s attitude was noticeably warmer. He even proactively asked if they had eaten breakfast.
“Yes, we did,” Zhou Muxin triumphantly walked past Su Li, glancing at Shen Mo: “Shen Mo is getting married. The house will be lively from now on.”
Su Li found this annoying and turned to walk toward Shen Mo.
Zhou Muxin deliberately stared at them: “Such a good relationship, huh?”
Su Li reached out and put her arm around Shen Mo’s waist, leaning down to give her a light kiss on the lips.
“That’s right,” she sat down gracefully on the sofa, “We have a very good relationship.”
At that moment, she could feel Shen Mo’s body stiffen tightly in her embrace.
