The Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Alpha Decides to Go On Strike (GL) - Chapter 15
With the wedding date fast approaching, Su Li was busy for days on end.
On Tuesday, after trying on wedding dresses with Shen Mo, she politely declined Shen Mo’s dinner invitation. She used the opportunity of sending out invitations to call Lu Lu and Chen Yue out for drinks.
Her two friends still looked confused after receiving the invitation, but Su Li had already ordered several glasses of wine and was gulping them down one after another.
“Hey, why are you drinking so fast?” Lu Lu held her hand. “You kept your marriage a secret so well? Come on, tell us what’s going on with this Shen Mo!”
“Shen Mo…” Su Li pouted.
“That name sounds familiar,” Chen Yue narrowed her eyes. “Is she that President Shen you video-called with before?
“I remember she was a major client of your company?”
“Wuwuwu—” The alcohol had magnified the emotions Su Li had suppressed for days. Hearing Shen Mo’s name now, her tears immediately fell. “So mean… wuwu, that woman is so mean…”
Lu Lu and Chen Yue were completely stunned.
“What exactly happened?” Lu Lu handed her some tissues. “Did she threaten you?
“Is she blackmailing you because she’s a major client of your company?”
Su Li sobbed and shook her head: “No blackmail…”
“Then why are you crying?” Chen Yue recalled the Shen Mo she had seen before. “I remember President Shen is very beautiful. Marrying you shouldn’t be a problem at all, right? Could it be…”
She leaned in mysteriously: “Does Shen Mo have some kind of hidden illness?”
Su Li slapped her arm: “Don’t you dare curse her!”
“How did I curse her?” Chen Yue rolled her eyes, not wanting to argue with a drunk person.
She propped her chin on her hand, thinking: “President Shen is fine, and she didn’t threaten you? Then who are you putting on this show for?”
“I get it!” Lu Lu’s eyes lit up. “She’s mourning the end of her single life!”
Su Li knew she couldn’t explain, so she simply stayed silent and tilted her head back to down another glass of wine—
After all, crying because Shen Mo was marrying her for a business alliance was too embarrassing.
“Damn it!” Lu Lu was instantly enraged when she took Su Li’s silence as agreement. “You’re completely marrying above your status, right? You’ve already soared high, and you’re still not satisfied? Are you deliberately trying to provoke us two single dogs, huh?”
Saying this, she rolled up her sleeves, looking like she was about to teach Su Li a lesson.
Chen Yue was much more sensitive than Lu Lu. She felt that things weren’t that simple. She reached out, pulled Lu Lu back, narrowed her eyes, and shook her head.
“Stop talking, drink!” Su Li raised her glass to them.
She had planned this gathering with her friends precisely to drink until she dropped.
Lu Lu raised her hand and clinked glasses with her, saying grandly: “Drink! This is an early celebration for you.”
Chen Yue sighed inwardly. She didn’t stop them, only quietly asked the waiter to switch her drink to juice, preparing herself to clean up the aftermath.
About an hour later.
The gathering was coming to an end when Su Li’s phone suddenly rang.
Chen Yue glanced at Su Li, who was passed out on the table. After confirming the caller’s name, she answered for her: “Hello.”
Shen Mo’s voice was slightly cool: “Hello.” She politely asked, “Where is Su Li?”
“President Shen, I’m Su Li’s friend. We met when you video-called Su Li before,” Chen Yue spoke methodically. “We’re having dinner at Yahan Restaurant. Su Li is drunk and can’t answer the phone right now.
“Is there anything you need?”
“…” Shen Mo was silent for two seconds. “It’s nothing major. She left her bracelet with me after trying on wedding dresses today.”
Chen Yue: “I see.”
Shen Mo fiddled with the thin silver chain in her hand: “This item might be very important to her.”
If it were very important, she wouldn’t have carelessly left it behind.
Chen Yue muttered this internally, then suddenly had an epiphany, getting the other person’s intention.
She cleared her throat and added: “We are in Private Room 601, and another friend is also drunk.” She nudged the unconscious Lu Lu beside her: “I don’t know if it’s convenient for you, but could you come and help take Su Li home?”
Shen Mo: “Twenty minutes.”
Chen Yue calmly replied, “I’ll wait for you,” but mentally she was astonished by the other party’s efficiency.
Twenty minutes later, Shen Mo arrived. She simply greeted Chen Yue, helped Su Li up, and got into the car.
The driver glanced at the rearview mirror: “President Shen, are we going to Miss Su’s house?”
“Back to my apartment,” Shen Mo supported Su Li, letting her rest her head on her lap.
The driver wisely retracted his gaze and softly replied, “Yes.”
Shen Mo’s apartment in City A was cold and quiet. In fact, if it weren’t for the upcoming marriage with Su Li, she rarely stayed there herself. Hotels or simply staying overnight at the company were more cost-effective choices.
After declining the driver’s offer to help, she painstakingly helped Su Li into the elevator and back to her home.
Su Li lay on the sofa with her eyes closed. Shen Mo thought for a moment, went back to the kitchen, poured a glass of water, and prepared to feed her the hangover capsule she had bought on the way back.
“Wake up,” Shen Mo flipped her over. “Take the medicine before you sleep.”
Su Li rubbed her ear.
The rim of the glass was pressed against her lips. She instinctively thought it was wine, took a sip, then pushed Shen Mo’s hand away, smacking her lips as she commented: “So bland… I don’t like this.”
“This is water. What flavor do you want?” Shen Mo asked.
Su Li turned to look at her.
The alcohol made her vision blurry. She could only vaguely make out a human silhouette: “Ch-Chen Yue?” Su Li reached out to touch her face, mumbling: “Your voice is so strange… it doesn’t sound like you…”
Shen Mo grabbed her hand, playing along with her thoughts: “Then who does it sound like?”
“It sounds like, like…” Su Li pouted, her nose turning red again. “Like that bad woman.”
Shen Mo narrowed her eyes.
Before the anger in her heart could fully form, she saw Su Li rub her ear again and complain: “Sounding so nice, don’t you worry about dying early?”
Shen Mo: “…”
She suppressed the urge to curve her lips upward, carefully scrutinizing the drunken Su Li.
Her earlobe felt a slight tickle. Su Li looked up at her: “Why aren’t you saying anything?”
“Do you still want to hear me talk?” Shen Mo placed the water glass back on the coffee table. “Who was it who only looked at me once in the wedding dress shop today and quickly ran away? Couldn’t be called back?”
“Huh? You, how did you know?” Su Li leaned in, trying hard to focus her eyes on the other person’s face.
She finally recognized the true identity of the person in front of her: “Shen Mo?!”
Shen Mo quietly said, “Mhm.”
“!!!”
The shock gave Su Li a moment of sobriety. She quickly scooted backward to the corner of the sofa, looking around and running her sluggish brain: “Where is this…”
“My house,” Shen Mo uttered two words.
Su Li was confused. She vaguely remembered having drinks with two friends and couldn’t figure out how she had magically appeared at Shen Mo’s apartment.
But at this moment, her first reaction was to scramble off the sofa: “I, I need to go back…”
Shen Mo instinctively reached out to help, and sure enough, the next second, Su Li stumbled right into her arms. Both of them fell back into the sofa due to the backward momentum.
Su Li tried desperately to flail, hoping to quickly get out of this embarrassing situation, but the more she rushed, the more disorganized she became. Every time she sat up, she would lose her balance and fall back down.
By the end, she was bracing her hands on the sofa, with Shen Mo beneath her, whose hair and collar were disheveled from being pressed down multiple times.
“Hoo, hoo…” Su Li breathed heavily in large gasps. She suddenly felt thirsty for some reason and licked her lips.
Shen Mo stared at her coldly, her demeanor still reserved and noble.
She asked: “Have you made enough of a fuss?”
Hearing this, Su Li gritted her teeth, the blush on her cheeks spreading to her earlobes.
She desperately wanted to maintain the image of a high-caliber elite in front of Shen Mo, at least to look like she was her equal, but reality always went against her wishes.
This entire episode tonight would probably completely extinguish what little good impression Shen Mo had of her.
Thinking this, Su Li felt defeated. She simply closed her eyes and, using the alcohol as an excuse, passed out.
