After The Cannon Fodder Died, She Became The Female Lead’s White Moonlight (GL) - Chapter 32.2
Che Gulai was off work today, lying in bed looking at stock market prices, when her phone rang.
It was Shen Sijin’s number.
She sneered. She wanted to see why Shen Sijin was calling her now.
Che Gulai answered, “Hello.”
To her surprise, a strange female voice spoke on the other end. “Hello, are you Miss Che Gulai?”
“Yes.” Che Gulai frowned. “Who is this?”
“Well, your friend Shen Sijin collapsed on the road. Could you please come over?”
Che Gulai wanted to refuse, but her mouth said, “Address.”
She arrived at the hospital and followed the person’s directions to a certain ward.
Only when she stood outside the ward door did Che Gulai begin to question why she had come.
Shen Sijin had nothing to do with her anymore. Why should she care whether she lived or died?
I must be crazy.
But since she was already here, Che Gulai saw no reason to leave. She pushed the door open.
A girl stood up. “Are you Miss Che Gulai?”
“Mhm.”
The girl sighed in relief. “I saw your friend collapse while walking. I tried to call her family, but no one answered, so I randomly pressed one number.”
Che Gulai nodded. “Thank you. I will give you appropriate compensation.”
The girl smiled. “It’s nothing. It’s a small matter. I’ll be going now.”
“Alright, thank you.”
After the girl left, Che Gulai focused her attention on Shen Sijin.
She hadn’t seen her for a while, but why was she so terrifyingly thin?
Her cheeks were hollowed out.
What had she been through?
Shen Sijin slowly opened her eyes.
Che Gulai was somewhat expectant, wondering what she would say upon seeing her.
But Shen Sijin only glanced at her, then slowly withdrew her gaze.
Her eyes were vacant, staring at the ceiling.
Che Gulai frowned. She said coldly, “Don’t you have anything to say now that you see me?”
Shen Sijin didn’t even look at her.
Che Gulai pulled her lips into a cold smile. She had come for nothing.
Coming here was clearly a moment of madness.
She got up and walked toward the door.
Just as she reached the doorway, Shen Sijin suddenly let out a sharp scream, then collapsed onto the floor.
Che Gulai turned around and saw Shen Sijin on the ground, clutching her head, babbling nonsensically, screaming occasionally, and acting hysterically.
Che Gulai didn’t understand what was happening.
A doctor came in and gave her a sedative. Shen Sijin quieted down slightly, and a nurse helped her back onto the bed.
“Doctor, what… what’s wrong with her?”
The doctor said, “The patient seems to have suffered some kind of major mental trauma. Her current mental state is extremely unstable.”
“Trauma?” Che Gulai said. “What trauma could she have experienced?”
Since breaking up with her, Che Gulai had stopped following any news about her.
“I’m not sure,” the doctor said. “In any case, the patient urgently needs company. Her mental state is too poor. She might do something harmful.”
The doctor started to walk out. Che Gulai followed him. Shen Sijin suddenly struggled again.
“Don’t go—” Her eyes were filled with irrational frenzy. She got off the bed and grabbed Che Gulai’s sleeve, stopping her from leaving.
Shen Sijin’s mind wasn’t entirely clear. She didn’t know exactly who the person in front of her was, only that if this person left, those others would follow her again.
“Don’t go. They’re following me!”
The doctor said, “See? The patient is likely experiencing hallucinations. She’s mistaken you for someone who can save her. It would be best if you stayed with her.”
Che Gulai put a hand to her aching forehead.
“However, I strongly recommend inpatient treatment,” the doctor finished and left. The nurse followed suit.
Che Gulai looked at Shen Sijin, who was desperately holding onto her sleeve, finding the situation utterly ridiculous.
The two of them had somehow gotten entangled again.
“Shen Sijin, do you know who I am?”
Shen Sijin just shook her head, repeating, “Don’t go. They’ll follow me. They think I killed Grandma. They all want me to die.”
So she doesn’t know who I am.
No wonder she’s holding onto my sleeve.
Wait a moment.
Che Gulai frowned. “You killed Grandma? What do you mean?”
Shen Sijin said painfully, “Why are they all following me? It’s so scary, so scary…”
Looking at her condition, Che Gulai knew she wouldn’t get any answers.
But what should she do now?
Che Gulai looked at the irrational Shen Sijin, deciding she would have someone investigate what had happened to her these past few days later.
Just leave her here.
After all, Shen Sijin has nothing to do with me anymore.
Che Gulai placed her hand on Shen Sijin’s, slowly trying to pull her away.
But the next second, Shen Sijin started to cry, tears streaming down her face.
“Grandma—”
Che Gulai had almost pulled her hand free and was about to leave, but Shen Sijin’s tears made her hesitate.
It was this momentary hesitation that allowed Shen Sijin to grab her sleeve again, and this time, Che Gulai couldn’t pry her fingers open.
Che Gulai: “…”
She took a step, and Shen Sijin followed her step.
She was speechless. She regretted coming here. She was being burdened for no reason.
Finally, out of options, Che Gulai was either fed up with the clinging or had some other reason. She took her back home.
She had a room prepared for Shen Sijin.
“You’ll sleep here for now,” Che Gulai pointed to the room. “Once you’re better, get out immediately.”
Shen Sijin must have been exhausted. She fell asleep quickly on the bed.
Che Gulai sat on the sofa, still unable to understand why she had brought Shen Sijin back.
Yes, why?
Was it because of that pitiful face?
Che Gulai lay back on the sofa, constantly analyzing her reasons for bringing her back.
She thought about it a lot, but found no answer.
Forget it. It was just one more person in the house. She would have her leave once she returned to some semblance of normal.
Shen Sijin stayed at Che Gulai’s house for the next few days. Her mental state was very poor. Most of the time, she was curled up in her room and refused to come out. Seeing her unwillingness to leave, Che Gulai merely instructed the maid to bring her meals and didn’t bother her otherwise.
Within a day or two, Bai Mingyu came knocking.
“Che Gulai, where is Xiao Jin?” Bai Mingyu frantically pounded on the iron gate.
Che Gulai had the gate opened. As soon as Bai Mingyu entered, she rushed straight at her.
“Where is Xiao Jin?”
Che Gulai looked at her tablet and said coolly, “Upstairs.”
“What are you planning?” Bai Mingyu gritted her teeth. “It wasn’t enough that you hurt Xiao Jin so terribly. Now you’ve taken her to your villa while she’s sick?”
Che Gulai found this amusing. She turned off her iPad. “Get it straight. Shen Sijin was the one who insisted on holding onto me and wouldn’t let me leave.”
“Impossible.”
Che Gulai sneered and stood up. “Follow me.”
Bai Mingyu followed her upstairs.
Che Gulai opened the door. Although it was daytime, the room was pitch black. She turned on a nightlight.
Shen Sijin was curled up on the bed with her legs bent. Seeing the visitor, she instinctively flinched and hid.
“Xiao Jin.” Bai Mingyu quickly rushed over.
But in Shen Sijin’s eyes, almost everyone was trying to harm her. She panicked and hid under the blanket.
Bai Mingyu froze.
Che Gulai said, “See? This is how she is. She’s rejecting everyone.”
“But what about you?”
“Me?” Che Gulai’s tone was calm. “At most, she isn’t afraid of me, but she won’t let me touch her.”
“Impossible.” Bai Mingyu glared at her. “Xiao Jin hates you the most. How could she not be afraid of you?”
Che Gulai scoffed. “Fool. That’s because she doesn’t recognize me.”
Now Bai Mingyu was stunned. “What?”
Che Gulai looked at Shen Sijin hiding under the blanket and said flatly, “She doesn’t know who I am. She’s just not afraid of me and might listen to me a little. That’s all.”
Bai Mingyu shook her head. “No matter what you say, I’m taking Xiao Jin out of here.”
“That would be for the best,” Che Gulai said slowly. “Provided you can get her out from under the blanket.”
Bai Mingyu tried, but sure enough, it didn’t work. Shen Sijin was strongly resistant.
She walked downstairs listlessly and sat on the sofa. “How could this happen?”
Che Gulai sat opposite her, watching her with an indifferent expression.
Bai Mingyu said miserably, “I didn’t realize that Grandma’s death would hit her so hard. I should have seen it sooner. She started acting strange right after her grandmother died.”
“Her grandmother died?” Che Gulai frowned.
Bai Mingyu snorted coldly. “What’s it to you?”
She glared fiercely at Che Gulai. “No, Xiao Jin started acting strange right after she started dating you. Especially before her grandmother died, she seemed incredibly sad almost every day.”
She suddenly rushed at Che Gulai, grabbing her collar. “Che Gulai, you are also guilty of Xiao Jin’s current state. You toyed with her feelings and drove her to this broken state. You are also to blame!”
Che Gulai wanted to laugh.
What did she mean, ‘it’s all her fault’?
She said unhurriedly, “Mingyu, even if I am extremely malicious, do you think Shen Sijin is blameless? Didn’t your brother tell you what she did to me in the past?”
Bai Mingyu didn’t speak, still glaring at her fiercely.
“I nearly died because of her several times. If I hadn’t been lucky, do you think I would be standing here talking to you now?” Che Gulai raised an eyebrow. “I still have the scar she gifted me on my arm. Do you want to see it?”
Bai Mingyu let go and shook her head. “Xiao Jin is not that kind of person. The Xiao Jin you talk about and the Xiao Jin I know are completely different people.”
Che Gulai smoothed out her collar and mocked, “How could a person change so drastically? Did she get possessed by a ghost?”
“Since you can’t take Shen Sijin, then leave.”
Bai Mingyu shot her a dark look. “I’ll be visiting often. If you bully Xiao Jin, I won’t let you get away with it.”
Che Gulai paid no mind to the threat from the young woman.
She walked up to the second floor and entered Shen Sijin’s room again.
Shen Sijin had emerged from under the blanket and was sitting motionless in the same posture. Che Gulai walked closer and reached out her hand to check if she was dead.
Shen Sijin flinched away.
Che Gulai pulled her lips into a smile. She sat on the nearby sofa. “What’s going on with you?”
Shen Sijin’s eyes were wooden. She didn’t speak.
Che Gulai didn’t expect her to talk. “How much longer are you going to stay here and impose on me? You’ll probably go crazy when you eventually recognize me.”
Shen Sijin remained silent.
Che Gulai was somewhat unnerved by this lifeless Shen Sijin.
She was like an inanimate puppet.
“Someone thinks it’s my fault you ended up like this. Shen Sijin, do you think I’m wrong?” Che Gulai spoke as if to herself. “You treated me so badly before. I’m just getting my revenge. Am I wrong? Why does everyone think I’m a selfish, malicious woman? Shen Sijin, tell me! You were also a bad person before. Why does no one say it’s your fault?”
Shen Sijin seemed to have fallen asleep.
Che Gulai stood up and poked her head. Sure enough, she slumped onto the bed, asleep.
She stood in the room, silent for a long time.
“Shen Sijin, how did you become so fragile?”
“This is not like you.”
The old you was gloomy and despicable, never knowing guilt or emotion. You were a cold, self-serving lunatic.
Yet now, you’ve become this lifeless shell because of a failed relationship.
