The Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Alpha Decides to Go On Strike (GL) - Chapter 17
Before the wedding, Shen Mo had dinner with Su Li’s family.
Su Li’s parents were very satisfied with their future daughter-in-law. During the dinner, Su Mu presented a family heirloom jade bracelet: “I feel completely at ease handing this over to you. Shen Mo, our Su Li is still a bit immature. Please take care of her.”
Shen Mo glanced at Su Li and nodded politely.
Su Li kept her eyes glued to the fish on her plate, not daring to look up.
She was still preoccupied with the memory of having taken advantage of Shen Mo the night she was drunk, and ate the entire meal without tasting anything. When dinner ended and her parents asked her to drive Shen Mo home, she was slow to react.
“What are you waiting for?” Su Qian urged. “Go and drive. Don’t let Miss Shen wait out in the cold.”
Su Li came back to her senses, and when she looked up, she met Shen Mo’s gaze.
In the car, the two remained silent the entire way.
The navigation system indicated they had arrived at the destination. Su Li stopped the car, her hands still tightly gripping the steering wheel.
It was strange. They were two people about to get married, yet she felt like she and Shen Mo were complete strangers.
“Would you like to come up for a cup of tea?” Shen Mo looked at her.
“No, thank you,” Su Li politely refused. “I have to get up early tomorrow for the hotel setup. You should get some rest too.”
The car door was unlocked, but Shen Mo made no move to get out.
She directly asked: “Have you been intentionally giving me the cold shoulder these past few days?”
“Hmm?” Su Li looked at her in surprise. “Why would you think that?”
The conflict between her resistance to the business marriage and her attraction to Shen Mo was unresolved. Su Li didn’t know how to face Shen Mo, and she had indeed used her busy schedule to avoid private meetings with her recently.
But what struck her as odd was that Shen Mo would use the word “cold shoulder.”
Wasn’t that a term only used between normal lovers?
“Then why aren’t you talking to me?” Shen Mo reached out and grabbed her sleeve.
This gesture was intimate, and Su Li felt a tingling sensation in her heart.
She cleared her throat and countered: “When did I stop talking to you?”
Shen Mo lowered her eyes and thought: “You haven’t been replying to my messages.”
“I have, though,” Su Li blinked. “Didn’t I reply ‘Goodnight’ to you every evening?”
Shen Mo slightly pressed her lips together.
She was somewhat slow when it came to emotional matters. She could sense Su Li’s deliberate distance but couldn’t pinpoint any specific fault.
“Are you also completely exhausted lately?” Su Li sighed, staring at the top of Shen Mo’s head, clenching her fist, restraining herself from reaching out to touch her.
“Get some good rest. Things will settle down after the wedding.”
Hearing the word “wedding,” Shen Mo looked up at her, her eyes sparkling like stars.
She nodded, released Su Li, turned, opened the door, and stepped out of the car.
Su Li sat in the car, watching her slender back slowly walk out from under the streetlights.
The night wind blew, and at one point, Shen Mo’s hair fluttered and became disheveled, needlessly disturbing Su Li’s inner peace. Su Li suddenly got out of the car. The cold air rushed into her body through the gaps in her clothes, chilling her to the bone.
Su Li quickened her pace, urgently running after her.
Shen Mo heard the movement behind her, turned, and saw Su Li standing in front of her.
She looked up at Su Li, hope in her eyes: “What is it?”
Su Li was slightly breathless, feeling a lump of fire in her chest.
The next moment, she took off her own jacket and draped it over Shen Mo’s shoulders: “Wear this. Don’t catch a cold.”
Shen Mo reached up to touch her face: “Aren’t you cold?” She added: “Your face is all red.”
“Mhm, I’m too hot,” Su Li took a step back, increasing the distance between them.
She forced a slight smile and said: “Go on.”
Shen Mo blinked, said “Mhm,” and turned to continue walking.
“Shen Mo,” Su Li called out to stop her before she turned into the apartment building.
Shen Mo turned back.
Su Li beckoned to her.
Perhaps the night wind was too harsh. In this instant, she suddenly understood many things and made up her mind.
She called out to Shen Mo: “I’ll help you. I will always stand by your side! Thank you, thank you for choosing me.”
Shen Mo’s gaze was deep, showing no discernible emotion.
After calling out, Su Li felt her behavior was a bit childish.
She rubbed her nose, and without waiting for the other person to react, she turned and got back into the car.
After confirming that Shen Mo had entered the building, Su Li started the car and drove away.
Mid-month arrived, and the somewhat rushed wedding was successfully held with everyone’s concerted effort.
In fact, early that morning, Su Li unexpectedly ran into Qiao Mumu in the hotel corridor.
She was holding the complex train of her wedding dress and looked at the other woman with a frown: “Why are you here?”
Qiao Mumu stared at her for a long time.
After regaining her composure, she reluctantly pulled back her gaze: “Su Zong, everyone from the office came to help. C-Congratulations on your marriage…”
“Thank you,” Su Li replied politely.
“Oh, right,” Qiao Mumu suddenly remembered something. “Sister Zhang asked me to deliver the diamond ear clips to you.”
She opened the small box she was holding and asked, blushing: “Do you want me to help you put them on?”
“No, thank you,” Su Li quickly took the box.
The ear clips had a small issue before, and the brand had promised to repair them. She hadn’t expected them to arrive on the wedding day.
She looked at Qiao Mumu: “You don’t need to help. Find somewhere to rest, or you can just go home.”
“I, I’m fine!” Qiao Mumu waved her hand.
She pursed her lips and suddenly whispered: “Su Li, you look so beautiful today.”
Su Li walked away, lifting the train of her dress, and replied, “Thank you.”
“I regret it,” Qiao Mumu followed her closely. “If I had accepted your confession back then, wouldn’t you have become mine…”
“No,” Su Li interrupted her.
She stepped into the elevator, simultaneously blocking Qiao Mumu outside: “I need to go meet my bride. Shen Mo is waiting for me.”
Qiao Mumu stood outside the elevator, nodding glumly.
The elevator doors slowly closed.
Su Li saw her reflection in the mirrored wall. She curved her lips, gracefully lifted her skirt, and spun around.
